Pregnant Participant Only– Hopi Tribal TANF
A pregnant participant may receive Hopi Tribal TANF benefits in her last trimester of pregnancy.
When the budgetary unit consists of only a pregnant participant, all the following apply:
●The unborn child must be deprived of parental support.
●All other eligibility criteria must be met.
When the father of the unborn resides with the participant, complete the following to determine whether the unborn is deprived of parental support:
●Complete a hand budget using the CA Needy Family Test (FAA-0200A) and CA Income Maximum and Needs Test (FAA-0200C).
●Determine income eligibility using income of all mandatory participants who would be included in the budgetary unit as if the baby was born. (See
CA Mandatory Participants)
●Compare the budget results to the CA Income Standard.
●When the hand budget results indicate there is at least one cent ($.01) NET NEED, the Unborn is considered deprived of parental support and the pregnant participant is eligible.
●When the hand budget results indicate there is not at least one cent ($.01) NET NEED, the Unborn is not considered deprived of parental support and the pregnant participant is not eligible.
NOTE When there is no deprivation, use the DC Denial or Closure Reason Code.
Key all known information (including Deprivation and Absent Parent Screens, when applicable) in AZTECS. Complete the following:
●Key the pregnant participant IN in the PT field for CA on SEPA.
●Key the Unborn UB in the PT field for CA on SEPA.
●Key the position of the mother in the POS PARENT field on SEPA next to the Unborn.
●When the father of the Unborn is in the home, but is not requesting benefits for himself, key the father OU in the PT field for CA on SEPA.
NOTE Key the position of the father in the POS PARENT field on SEPA next to the Unborn.
Benefits can be approved for the last trimester of pregnancy. The last trimester begins with the third month before the EDD month. (See Example
Tribal CA-PG Eligibility)
NOTE When a pregnant participant turns in an application for benefits in the fourth month before the month of the EDD, prorate the application to the first day of the following month for CA.
When benefits are approved, set an ACTS alert for ten days before the end of the EDD month. Send a NOAA informing the PI that Tribal TANF benefits will stop the following month. Complete the following:
●Do not stop the benefits when the participant reports she is still pregnant. Set an ACTS alert to send another NOAA and stop benefits the second month following the EDD month.
●Convert the pregnant participant only case to a regular Hopi TANF case when the participant reports the baby has been born.
●Stop benefits when the participant fails to respond to the NOAA.
The participant must complete a change report for the baby within ten days of the baby’s birth to receive continued benefits. When the participant reports the baby has been born, complete the following:
●Conduct a complete review of the case.
●Take action to make changes as needed.
