Child Only CA Requirements
When a nonparent specified relative (NPSR) applies only for the dependent child, the countable income of all people in the
caretaker relative(g)'s
family(g) of the child for whom benefits are being requested, must be determined.
When the application is submitted, the OST must register CA for those who are living in the home with the child for whom benefits are being requested. This is so AZTECS is able to conduct the
CA Needy Family Test. Register CA for all of the following people:
●All minor children for whom CA benefits are being requested
●The PI
●All minor children of the PI
●All minor children of the spouse of the PI
During the interview, complete all of the following:
●Document the relationship of all people who are a part of the caretaker relative's family of the child for whom CA benefits are being requested.
●On the SEPA screen, complete the following:
Key IN in the PT field next to the child for whom CA benefits are being requested.
Key OU in the PT field next to the NPSR and all other participants for whom benefits are not being requested.
●Verify the earned and unearned income of all people in the caretaker relative's family of the child for whom CA benefits are being requested.
●Verify the dependent care expenses of all people in the caretaker relative's family of the child for whom CA benefits are being requested.
●Key the income and dependent care expenses of all people in the caretaker relative's family of the child for whom benefits are being requested, including any income of the child for whom benefits are being requested.
When AFPD indicates that the Child Only CA is eligible for benefits, complete the eligibility determination.
When AFPD indicates that the Child Only CA is ineligible due to failing the needs test, key FN in the DENIAL/CLOSURE REASON field on AFPD. Send the
A210 notice.
