The Nutrition Assistance Program
Introductory program information about the Nutrition Assistance (NA) program.
Policy
Nutrition Assistance (formerly the Food Stamp Program) is Arizona’s program for the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Nutrition Assistance (NA) provides eligible households with monthly benefits they can use to purchase nutritious food. By helping families fight food insecurity and meet one of their fundamental needs, they can focus on overcoming barriers to self-sufficiency.
Food assistance programs available through the Department of Economic Security (DES) and its community partners increase food security and reduce hunger by providing children, low-income persons, and seniors with access to nutritious food.
The NA program assists eligible participants in obtaining employment and training to increase the participants’ earnings. There are several employment and training programs available to help NA participants overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. The Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) manages these programs in all of the following administrative categories:
●Workforce development.
●Rehabilitation services.
●Unemployment Insurance programs.
For a complete list and description of employment and training programs available to NA participants, see
Workforce Development, Rehabilitation Services, and Unemployment Insurance Programs.
The rules and regulations for the NA program are located throughout the CNAP Manual.
