State Assistance Need Standard - Overview
The State Assistance Need Standard used in determining State Assistance eligibility and benefit amount depends upon whether or not a participant in the budgetary unit is obligated to pay a shelter cost.
 
Consider the following when determining whether a participant is eligible for the A1 or A2 need standards:
 
●The A1 Need Standard is based upon an obligation to pay shelter costs.
●The A2 Need Standard is based upon no obligation to pay shelter costs.
