State Assistance Types of Unearned Income - Educational Income - Not Countable
The following types of educational income are NOT COUNTABLE:
 
Educational loans regardless of the source
Grants or scholarship awards made to undergraduate students for educational purposes
The grants or awards must be from a program administered or funded by either of the following:
The U.S. Commissioner of Education
BIA Student Assistance Program
Payments that fit this category are usually made at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters.
These payments include, but are not limited to, the following:
Basic Education Opportunity Grant (BEOG)
Guaranteed Student Loans (GSL)
National Director Student Loans (NDSL)
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
College Work Study
Any grant, scholarship or other award that is NOT made, funded, or insured from a program administered by the U.S. Commissioner of Education
The payments must be for specific education expenses, such as travel or books. This DOES NOT include living expenses, such as food or clothing.
