Child Only Cases – Hopi Tribal TANF

(01/01/19 –12/31/19)
A dependent child may receive Hopi Tribal TANF benefits when residing with a nonparent caretaker relative (NPCR). An NPCR is an adult who is capable and responsible for the care, control, and supervision of the dependent child.

When the Hopi Tribal TANF budgetary unit consists of only a child, all of the following apply:

The budgetary unit must meet all other Hopi Tribal TANF program requirements
The NPCR must be related to the child by blood (no limit to the degree of relationship) or by law.
The NPCR’s legal or biological relationship must be verified by a Court Order, Relative Placement Order or a Statement from a Kikmongwi (Village Leader).
The child must be placed in the NPCR’s home by the Hopi Tribal Courts, Hopi Social Services, a Kikmongwi (Village Leader), or another Court of Law.
The NPCR must provide proof of the placement of the child in the home by the Hopi Tribal Courts, Hopi Social Services, a Kikmongwi (Village Leader), or another Court of Law.

The NPCR is an optional participant. When the NPCR is included in the Hopi Tribal TANF budgetary unit, their resources and income are countable.

NOTE The NPCR is required to comply with the Hopi Family Assistance Program (HFAP) prior to TANF approval
