Reasonable Cause for Drug Use

(10/01/14 –11/30/14)
FAA must determine whether there is reasonable cause to believe the participant engages in the use of illegal drugs(g).

Reasonable cause exists when one of the following occurs:

The completed Illegal Drug Use Statement (FAA-1415A) form or notice contains one or more YES responses.
Government or law enforcement documents indicate the use of illegal drugs within the past 30 days by the participant.
Notification by any court that the participant is convicted of a misdemeanor or felony drug charge that does not disqualify them for CA.

Reasonable cause is determined at the following times:

At new application when benefits are authorized. (See Illegal Drug Use Statement at New CA Application Approval for procedures)
At renewal application when the interview is completed. (See Illegal Drug Use Statement at Renewal Interview for procedures)

NOTE At new application, AZTECS generates the Illegal Drug Use Statement (X005) notice after the CA benefits are authorized and the approval notice is sent. At renewal application, the participant must complete the Illegal Drug Use Statement (FAA-1415A) form or Illegal Drug Use Statement (A002) notice before the CA benefits are approved.
