CA PRA School Attendance Requirements
(01/01/25 –12/31/25)
Each child age 6 through 15 must be enrolled in and attending school or be home schooled.

FAA must review the school attendance status for each child and the PI must complete one of the following at each new or renewal application:

Indicate the school attendance status for each child on the official application.
Provide a statement regarding the school attendance status for each child.
Establish School Attendance good cause when the participant refuses to cooperate.
When a child is home schooled, document that the child is being home schooled. When the information provided seems questionable(g), request a copy of the Department of Education's Affidavit of Intent.

The United States (U.S.) Department of State Reception and Placement (R&P) programs are obligated by contract to enroll all school age children in school within the first 90 calendar days(g) after arrival in the United States. Participants are in compliance with the school attendance requirement and are not required to provide additional verification during the first 90 calendar days in the U.S., when enrolled in any of the following R&P programs:

A Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) Voluntary Agency(g).
An RRP Virtual R&P Program.
A Welcome Corp Sponsorship Program.

When the budgetary unit reapplies or submits a CA renewal application, after the first 90 calendar days in the U.S., school attendance verification must be requested and received before the CA benefit determination can be completed.

NOTE Asylees and Cuban and Haitian entrants are not eligible for a U.S. Department of State R&P program and are required to provide school attendance or a claim of good cause before the CA benefit determination can be completed.
