01 CA Dependent Child
A dependent child is any child who meets both of the following criteria:
Is under the age of 19, and when 18 meets the CA Student Criteria.
Lives with a specified relative who has requested benefits for the child.
When the child meets the age requirement for CA, AZTECS checks the child's deprivation factors to determine eligibility.
A dependent child must be deprived of parental care or support to be potentially eligible for CA. (See Deprivation)
In addition, the following policy is specific to the listed program:
For CA, a child is a dependent child when a Legal Permanent Guardian has requested benefits for a child placed in their care.
NOTE When the participant is age 18 and does not meet the definition of a dependent child, consider the participant an adult. They must apply for CA on their own behalf.
