A Temporarily Absent Child
Minor children may be temporarily away from the specified relative for a period of NOT MORE THAN 180 consecutive days.
 
Reasons for a minor child's absence include but are not limited to the following:
 
Attend school
Hospitalization
Placement in a medical rehabilitation center
 
Children who have been in Foster Care(g) are eligible for CA the entire month they enter Foster Care. They are also eligible the entire month they leave Foster Care. This is only when the foster care funds are not being used for that month. Contact the Department of Child Safety (DCS) for this information. (See DCS Eligibility and Payments Supervisor)
 
When a child is temporarily absent from the home, key the Out of Home Location Code for that child in the LOC CD field on TEOA.
 
When the child is out of the home MORE THAN 180 consecutive days, key OU in the AF PT field on SEPA. (See OU Participants- MA EXCEPTION)
